Abruzzo, with its Nationals Parks and its Natural Reserves, is widely renowned as the Green Region of Europe: the Abruzzo National Park, the Gran Sasso & Monti della Laga National Park, the Majella National Park and the Sirente-Velino Regional Park along with other natural reserves and protected areas, constitute one of the largest green areas in the European continent, offering endless possibilities and new destinations for responsible, eco-friendly and diversified tourism.

The Region has a strong environmental bent due to the nature of its territory, made up of mountains and hills, and has been able to preserve an unspoilt environment thanks to advanced legislation in favor of national parks and protected areas.

Abruzzo is the perfect place for great hikes, outdoor adventures, horse riding trips or bike tours, as well as trekking, educational tours and excursions with selected guides, to observe nature at its best, rare flora and animals living in the freedom of natural reserves, etc.

The region's wide natural spaces offer accommodation facilities set among some of Italy's best landscapes.

Encompassing 1100 sq km of spectacular mountain scenery, the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise is the oldest and most popular of Abruzzo’s national parks. Up to two million people visit annually, hoping, perhaps, to catch sight of one of the 50 Marsican brown bears, 40 Apennine wolves, 600 indigenous chamois and 10 lynx that roam the highlands.

The park offers superb hiking as well as skiing, mountain-biking and other outdoor pursuits.
